Soil salinity under climate change: Challenges for sustainable agriculture and food security
نویسندگان
چکیده
Soil salinity is one of the major and widespread challenges in recent era that hinders global food security environmental sustainability. Worsening situation, harmful impacts climate change accelerate development soil salinity, potentially spreading problem near future to currently unaffected regions. This paper aims synthesise information from published literature about extent, mechanisms, current mitigation strategies for tackling highlighting opportunities under situations. Mitigation approaches such as application amendments, cultivation tolerant genotypes, suitable irrigation, drainage land use strategies, conservation agriculture, phytoremediation, bioremediation techniques have successfully tackled issue, offered associated benefits carbon sequestration, recycling natural resources. These management practices further improve socio-economic conditions rural farming community salt-affected areas. We also discuss emerging reclamation saline aquaculture integrated with sub surface drainage, microorganisms plant agro-farming systems warrant research attention restore agricultural sustainability scenarios. • Distribution, causes vulnerability highlighted. Management discussed. Socioeconomic reviewed. Different innovative research.

Options for support to agriculture and food security under climate change
Agriculture and food security are key sectors for intervention under climate change. Agricultural production is highly vulnerable even to 2C (low-end) predictions for global mean temperatures in 2100, with major implications for rural poverty and for both rural and urban food security. Agriculture also presents untapped opportunities for mitigation, given the large land area under crops and ran...

This article reviews the potential impacts of climate change on food security. It is found that of the four main elements of food security, i.e., availability, stability, utilization, and access, only the first is routinely addressed in simulation studies. To this end, published results indicate that the impacts of climate change are significant, however, with a wide projected range (between 5 ...
